Interior Minister Herbert Reul opened the cycling and pedelec season in North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday afternoon (March 18). The minister presented prevention films on safe riding on pedelecs together with the district administrator of the Rhein-Erft district, Frank Rock, and Horst Lichter.
"Caution and prudence have always been the best advice. This also applies to road traffic. I am delighted that Horst Lichter is supporting us in our prevention work. Older people in particular have replaced their old "wire donkey" with the popular "electric donkey". And unfortunately, older pedelec riders generally have too many accidents, all too often fatal. That's why we have to pay particular attention to the problem child "pedelec rider", give them a good talking to and provide assistance," says Interior Minister Herbert Reul.
With this day of action, the police are placing a special focus on road safety, especially for pedelec riders. The support of a motor is particularly interesting for older cyclists and brings a gain in mobility. However, this external assistance also harbors risks. With two newly produced prevention films, in which Horst Lichter can be seen as the main actor, the Rhine-Erft district police are drawing attention to dangerous situations on the road with a pedelec.
Pedelec riders have no crumple zone! Preventing traffic accidents through active prevention work is a major concern of the police.
The police in the Rhine-Erft district organized this day of action together with the Rhine-Erft district traffic watch and the Rhineland Regional Association. The prevention films were produced in collaboration with the production company Warner Bros. The Rhine-Erft district police would like to thank Horst Lichter and his management in particular. (sc)
